Climate Futures Tool

The Australian Climate Futures Tool is an example of a decision-support tool to aid in the selection of a sub-set of regional climate projections for impact assessment and adaptation planning. The tool can explore changes in two variables simultaneously, such as annual surface temperature and annual rainfall.

How Climate Futures works

In the example below, the wettest case for the hypothetical rainfall capture application is hotter and much wetter (with a 4% probability), the driest case is much hotter and much drier (with a 4 % probability), and the case with most consensus is much hotter and shows little change in rainfall, which is indicated by 32% of the models. If high-resolution downscaled information is within that selection box for any of the three selections, then that can be used as a representative projection for that selection.
